The Department of History and International Studies is one of the Departments in the Faculty of Humanities, Social and Management Sciences, Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo, Delta State. In 2017, the Department was approved by NUC, but academic activities started in 2021/2022 session with the Department running a four-year B.A Degree Programme in History and International Studies.


The mission and vision of the Department are the pursuit of academic excellence, advancement of knowledge in history and diplomacy; as well as community service through quality teaching, lifelong learning, social inclusion and strengthening of civil society that addresses the challenges of contemporary society in an atmosphere guided by the high ethical and professional standards set by the founding fathers. The students shall have the best opportunity of the platform of the Students Historical Society of Nigeria (SHSN) ECU Chapter to engage in all such academic and allied activities that will prepare them to face the challenges of life in the larger society when they graduate.

The Department of History and International Studies stands uniquely as one that focuses on the study of the dynamics of societies and the international environment in which they exist. It seeks to understand the growth of communities of humans nationally and globally to reveal their relationships and interdependence. It looks into the processes of national and international life and the trajectory of their development, and how it impacts societies. In studying the past it helps students understand the intricate ways in which the past impacts on the present thus helping them understand the usable past. It also studies institutions like the United Nations, the African Union, etc. and the legal framework introduced to strengthen the effectiveness of the international engagements among the members of the international community and State Actors.
